Petition for Overlapping Classes

Overview

The Petition for Overlapping Classes allows a student to request to register for a course that is overlapping with another course.

Instructor Responsibilities

The overlapping class is the one where the instructor is allowing the student to arrive late or leave early. That instructor must:

  • Track and log the student's hours.
  • Submit a completed time sheet by the end of the semester.

  1. Add/Registration Process

    • Add the course through RGN.
    • If the class is full and the student is waitlisted, you may override the waitlist if:
      • The class has started.
      • Instructor permission is already on the Overlap Petition itself.
  2. Flag the Course as an Overlap

    • Detail into course on STAC.
    • Detail into Notes/Comments.
    • Enter OVRLP into Notes/Dates and Save All.

Info

The OVRLP flag helps identify overlap courses so we can contact instructors during finals week.

Finals Week Procedures

AR Techs will email instructors requesting time sheets.

Special Cases

Student Dropped from Class

If the student dropped or was dropped from the class, you may accept an email explanation from the instructor in place of the time sheet.

Overlapping Class Is a CEC Course

Warning

If the overlapping class involves a CEC (Continuing Education Center) course:

  1. Have the student drop the CEC course.
  2. Register them in the college-credit version of the course.
  3. Either have the student re-register for the CEC course, or ask CEC Admissions to re-register them.
